Mpox Update: What You Need to Know

Mpox continues to be a health concern that can see occasional increases or seasonal upticks in cases. While outbreaks may vary in size and location, public health experts emphasize that staying informed and taking preventive measures remain the best ways to protect yourself and your community. Vaccination and early testing for anyone with symptoms are effective ways to reduce the spread. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) continue to monitor Mpox globally and provide guidance as new information becomes available. At Kind Clinic, we’re committed to keeping our community healthy and informed by sharing up-to-date information and resources about Mpox and other public health issues.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Mpox

Mpox symptoms may vary but typically include:

  • Rash: This often occurs near the genital area but can also appear on other parts of the body, including the hands, feet, and chest. The rash may initially resemble pimples or blisters and can be painful or itchy.
  • Flu-like Symptoms: These may include fever, chills, muscle aches, and a sore throat.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms or suspect you may have been exposed to Mpox, it’s important to seek medical care promptly. Call Kind Clinic’s Patient Support Center at 833-937-5463 to schedule an appointment and get the care you need.

Getting Tested for Mpox

If you’re experiencing symptoms such as a new or unexplained rash, sores, or flu-like symptoms—or if you believe you’ve recently been exposed to Mpox—getting tested is an important step for your health and the health of others.

Getting Tested for Mpox at Kind Clinic

Kind Clinic offers Mpox testing as part of our commitment to community health and sexual wellness. Testing is confidential, quick, and available by appointment at all Kind Clinic locations. If Mpox is suspected, a healthcare provider will evaluate your symptoms and collect a sample from any rash or lesion for testing.

To schedule an appointment, call our Patient Support Center at 833-937-5463 or visit KindClinic.org for more information about testing and care options near you.

Mpox Prevention and Staying Informed

Taking steps to protect yourself from Mpox is crucial, especially for those who may be at higher risk. Here are some simple precautions:

  • Get vaccinated: If you’re eligible and recommended, receiving the Mpox vaccine can offer significant protection.
  • Avoid close, skin-to-skin contact: Steer clear of intimate contact with people who have a rash or symptoms of Mpox.
  • Practice good hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer to prevent infection.
  • Use barriers during intimate contact: While condoms and other barriers reduce the risk of HIV and other STIs, they don’t fully protect against Mpox. Mpox is not classified as a sexually transmitted infection, but intimate contact remains the most significant risk factor for transmission.

Mpox Vaccinations

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and reduce the spread of Mpox. While Kind Clinic may not currently offer Mpox vaccinations on-site, our team can connect you with local public health partners and community events where vaccines may be available.

Some patients with insurance may also be able to receive the Mpox vaccine through local pharmacies, such as CVS. Availability may vary, so we encourage you to check with your pharmacy or local health department for current information.
