About Our Founding Kind Partners

Kind Partners, named in honor of key founders in Texas Health Action’s history, is a new way to give that ensures LGBTQIA+ communities and people impacted by HIV receive the high-quality healthcare they deserve.

Kind Partners

Starting at just $5 a month or a donation of $50 annually, you can be a Kind Partner and help in the pursuit of health justice.

Founded in 1983 by Paul Clover, Waterloo Counseling Center (WCC) responded to the mental health needs arising from the AIDS epidemic. In 2021, WCC merged with Texas Health Action, offering specialized counseling to the LGBTQIA+ community and those with HIV/AIDS.

Douglas Plummer, a founding Board Member of Texas Health Action, led the organization’s evolution from a volunteer group to a sophisticated entity meeting diverse community needs. Kind Partners pays tribute to Plummer’s legacy, highlighting his dedication to healthcare and legal rights for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Melanie Pokluda’s service as the longest-standing Board Member and Chair (2015-2023) drove statewide expansion and fiscal responsibility for Texas Health Action. Kind Partners honors Melanie’s legacy, emphasizing her role in shaping the organization into a statewide powerhouse.

Dr. Cynthia Brinson, a pivotal figure in founding Texas Health Action and the Kind Clinic, was the first donor to the organization. Kind Partners celebrates Dr. Brinson’s enduring legacy and her invaluable contributions to LGBTQIA+ and HIV-affected individuals’ well-being.

Mark Erwin’s dedication and vision led to the success of Kind Clinic, Texas Health Action, and the creation of the Mark A. Erwin Endowment for Sexual Health and Wellness.
