Third onsite pharmacy in co-located partnership with Kind Clinic
Texas Health Action’s Kind Clinic, which provides sexual health services in San Antonio, and Avita Pharmacy announced today the opening of a new onsite pharmacy at Kind Clinic San Antonio. The new location at 730 Isom Road offers patients readily available prescriptions right next door to the clinic, just minutes after they leave their appointments.
Since 2015, Kind Clinic–a program of Texas Health Action–has provided sexual health services with expertise in providing care for the LGBTQIA+ community. With locations in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio and virtual care options, the organization serves more than 25,000 patients across the state annually, providing access to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for HIV prevention, PEP (post exposure prophylaxis), HIV/STI testing and treatment, HIV medical care, and gender affirming care in a safe and supportive environment.
“As Texas Health Action and its programs continue to grow and serve LGBTQIA+ people and people impacted by HIV, having pharmacies that understand our patients and provide the same level of competent care is crucial,” Christopher Hamilton, chief executive officer of Texas Health Action, said.
Removing barriers with co-location
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services 2019 People Living with HIV report, there were approximately 97,844 people living with HIV in Texas. Approximately 7,514 of these individuals living with HIV in 2019 lived in the San Antonio HIV Service Delivery Area (HSDA), making it the HSDA with the third-highest number of HIV cases out of Texas’ 28 HSDAs.
“Our partnership with Avita Pharmacy helps remove barriers to accessing medications, which is critical for preventing the transmission of HIV and STIs in San Antonio,” Hamilton added.
Since 2021, Kind Clinic has partnered with Avita Pharmacy—an Avita Care Solutions company—on a co-located model that brings onsite pharmacy services to existing Kind Clinic locations, further eliminating barriers to care and ensuring patients can easily obtain and continue their medications. The new pharmacy is the third Avita-managed onsite pharmacy in this co-located model with Kind Clinic, and the first in San Antonio.
