Texas Health Action (THA), an Austin non-profit organization that promotes sexual wellness, announced today the opening of its new Kind Clinic location at 1101 West 40th Street. The Kind Clinic is a full-service sexual health and wellness clinic dedicated to the treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including access to the HIV prevention drugs PrEP and PEP. It is the first nonprofit in Central Texas to provide access to PrEP at little-to-no cost.
The Kind Clinic is creating a kinder approach to the prevention of HIV in Austin with a culturally aware staff, and a safe, state-of-the-art space designed to provide services for those most susceptible to HIV.
“As Central Texas continues to grow, there is a greater need for culturally sensitive sexual health and wellness providers in the community, especially when it comes to LGBTQ communities,” Joe McAdams, executive director of Kind Clinic, said. “We outgrew our clinic on East 30th Street and needed a larger space to accept more patients. We’re also excited to have a clinic that’s more accessible—in the heart of Austin near multiple bus lines.
“Not only are all medical services free for our patients, but our clinicians are knowledgeable and dedicated to a kinder approach to HIV treatment and prevention,” Dr. Cynthia Brinson, medical director of Texas Health Action, said. “Those affected by HIV are looking for a safe place where they feel comfortable and can receive care without judgment or stigma.”
In March, Kind Clinic started offering gender care services to address the specific wellness needs of transgender and gender non-binary individuals. This free, high-quality, gender-affirming medical care includes Kind Clinic’s full spectrum of sexual health and wellness services, as well as behavioral health services. Additionally, Kind Clinic’s patient advocate team provides access to hormone replacement therapy at an affordable cost to patients.
By removing stigma and judgment from the medical setting, individuals are more likely to access medical care. This approach to healthcare has opened the door to HIV prevention for a community with the highest incidence of HIV. Currently, 40 percent of the clinic’s transgender and gender non-binary individuals are now accessing PrEP.
The Kind Clinic provides comprehensive sexual health and wellness services to all people, regardless of race, creed, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Learn more about Kind Clinic here, or click here to make an appointment or get in touch.
