Meet the “Waterloo – Yasss Qween” Team for the 2021 HCRA!

Kind Clinic is a proud sponsor of this year’s Hill Country Ride for AIDS (HCRA)! Join us in cheering on the “Waterloo – Yasss Qween” team who will be #Riding4Love this year in support of the nine beneficiaries of HCRA. For over 20 years, the HCRA has developed a community of kindness that fully supports its participants, volunteers, supporters, and the beneficiaries it serves.

Beneficiaries of HCRA provide critical HIV/AIDS services that include: prevention/education, medical care, housing, hospice, dental care, transportation, food pantry, case management, HIV testing, financial assistance, practical support, substance abuse, and mental health services.

Meet some of the “Waterloo – Yasss Qween” team members and help support them in their #Riding4Love journey!

Meet the Team!

Collin, co-Captain (he/him/his)

What inspired you to join Team Yasss Qween for HCRA this year?

I wanted to challenge myself and be more active. HCRA gives me the perfect opportunity to do that AND support great causes in our community.

Have you been a part of HCRA before?

This is my first year as a rider! I’ve volunteered and supported friends who were riding before.

What is your favorite song, music genre, or inspiration to get you motivated to ride or exercise?

90’s and 00’s Dance tracks always work for me

Brandon, co-Captain (he/him/his)

What inspired you to join Team Yasss Qween for HCRA this year?

The Ride is my favorite annual event, and I couldn’t miss out on riding with my friends and colleagues from Texas Health Action (THA)!

Have you been a part of HCRA before?

This is my 11th year to ride and 15th year to participate.

What is your favorite song, music genre, or inspiration to get you motivated to ride or exercise?

I’m somewhere along the continuum of Whitney, Britney, and Beyonce. I’m also fueled by the love and support of this Ride community and inspired by the work the beneficiaries do every day!

Christopher (he/him/his)

What inspired you to join Team Yasss Qween for HCRA this year?

I am really excited about growing mental health services and therapy and being able to support Waterloo Counseling Center through HCRA!

Have you been a part of HCRA before?

Not as a rider. In 2018 I was SAG wagon, dressed as Bjork for Kind Karaoke. We had a blast doing roadside karaoke with riders and supporting those out on the routes.

What is your favorite song, music genre, or inspiration to get you motivated to ride or exercise?

HOUSE! House music (and not the EDM stuff) is what moves me, physically and emotionally. Check out “Where Love Lives: A Story of Dancefloor Culture & Expression” on Youtube. The history with the LGBTQIA+ community runs deep. It’s all about love.

Nicholas (he/him/his)

What inspired you to join Team Yasss Qween for HCRA this year?

Earlier this year Waterloo Counseling Center became a program of THA alongside Kind Clinic. As a member of THA, I HAD to jump (or ride) at the chance to support Waterloo.

Have you been a part of HCRA before?

I haven’t!

What is your favorite song, music genre, or inspiration to get you motivated to ride or exercise?

Oh this is a hard one. Here are some songs that always put me in a good mood when they come on. And I NEED music to exercise. In no particular order: Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know,” Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” Queen’s “I Want to Break Free,” Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” Beyonce’s “Love On Top,” The Who’s “Baba O’Riley,” Kim Petra’s “Heart to Break,” Marc Broussard’s “Let the Music Go Down in Your Soul,” Cher’s cover of ABBA’s “Waterloo” (obviously)!
